DECORATING DILEMMAS

Dilemma: Arrangment of small lamps and knickknacks on end tables, without having them looking sloppy.  Create a display that's interesting but also useful

Solution: The key is to have one commanding object to ground each table.  Try a decent-size lamp, at least 24 inches tall, and surround it with objects of varying scale.  they should be of a similar style or material, and none should compete with the lamp height-wise.  Finish by adding one item that's completely different from all the others in shape - a box, a vase of flowers.

Dilemma: Wallpaper with coordinating borders...is there another option?

Solution: Get out your glue gun.  Find a flat ribbon (not too wide if the room is small) in a matching or nice contrasting color, and run it along the edge where the walls meet the ceiling.  You can even use the ribbon above your baseboards and around the door frame (be sure the miter teh corners here).  With this ribbon detailing at every seam, your room will feel as elegant as the inside of a jewelery box.
