White Rock Amenities & Attractions

TRANSPORTATION White Rock is 45 minutes easy driving time from Vancouver and even less from the International Airport. Seattle is a mere 2 1/2 hour drive south and another airport is located in Bellingham just 20 minutes south of White Rock. An excellent regional bus system serves White Rock offering express routes to and from Vancouver and the Skytrain station, connecting other regions in the Vancouver Region. EDUCATION There are three public and two private High Schools in the area and 17 public Elementary Schools, some of which offer French Immersion. In addition, there are four private schools offering a variety of philosophies and catering to various denominations.. The University of B.C. and Simon Fraser University are approximately a one hour commute from White Rock. Other community colleges are located within a 30 minute drive in both Langley and Central Surrey. HEALTH CARE White Rock's main health care facility, Peace Arch Hospital, recently underwent an expansion to accommodate the fast growing population. It offers a full range of medical services with over 1100 staff. There are 177 acute care beds and approximately 300 extended care beds, emergency, diagnostic and treatment outpatient services. The Semiahmoo Peninsula has numerous clinics offering a full range of dental, medical, chiropractors, and naturopathic services. ATTRACTIONS Where does one start? The sandy beaches, the lush nature trails, quaint restaurants and tearooms, art galleries, sidewalk cafe's for the glorious sunsets, or the red brick promenade that lines three miles of waterfront. Take your pick, there is definitely something for everyone. Well known for its active artistic community, White Rock is home to several theatre groups, and many well-known artists. There is a host of shopping options in the area, from quaint beach front boutiques to full scale shopping malls featuring stores to suit every budget. There is a modern cinema offering your choice of six movies every day. Golfers will appreciate the 13 (and growing) top notch courses available within a ten mile radius of the peninsula not to mention a "better than Vancouver" climate to make year-round golfing a cinch. Other athletes can enjoy the state of the art Softball City facility which is adjacent to a similarly modern Olympic size ice arena. Excellent (and free) tennis courts are generously located throughout the community as are lawn bowling, and other sports facilities. Two local papers serve the community, the Peace Arch News and Surrey Now. Real Estate information is published every two weeks in the White Rock Advisor. Every year White Rock hosts its own Sea Festival which includes the popular Torch Light parade, a "Kid's Fishing Derby" and top notch entertainment. The Tour de White Rock, an international cycling event, is also hosted by the city every summer. Being a waterfront community, boaters will be tempted everyday by the blue waters of Semiahmoo Bay. Nearby marinas in Crescent Beach, and across the line in Blaine offer moorage of all sorts. PLACES OF WORSHIP Places of Worship are available for many denominations, including, Anglican, Baptist, Catholic, Christian and Missionary Alliance, Latter Day-Saints, Evangelical, Bible Fellowship, Lutheran Jehovah's Witness, Mennonite, Pentecostal, Presbyterian, Salvation Army, Seventy Day Adventist, United and Gospel.
